St Ives 29 v 7 Hayle On Boxing Day at Alexandra Road St Ives welcomed their local rivals Hayle from across St Ives Bay to compete for the Bay Shield in the annual traditional fixture. Hayle were the holders of the shield following their narrow 9 points to 8 victory over St Ives in 2014, there being no fixture last year as Hayle were unable to raise a side. The match this year was a competitive affair with the game being closer than the score line suggests. A good crowd attend
St Ives 14 v 19 Devonport Services In their last league fixture of 2016 St Ives welcomed Western Counties West league leaders Devonport Services to Alexandra Road. Experienced prop Ben Wheeler was named in the front row in place of the unavailable Ben Jenkins. Jacob Ninnes started on the right wing, with coach Paul Thirlby naming himself at fly half, meaning a move to fullback for Jordan Gott. Lewis Thomas was brought to the bench in place of Liam Jolly late on and Neil Corin
Crediton 17 v 13 St Ives St Ives recent run of form which has seen them win in their last four outings came to an end in Devon last weekend when they came up against a resilient Crediton side in their latest Western Counties West league match. The first quarter of the match was scoreless. Crediton pushed St Ives back into their half on numerous occasions, but the first chance of points did fall to St Ives from a penalty kick in the 11th minute. What looked like a routine kick

It was never going to be easy to follow the drubbing they gave Bude. However, a bon
St Ives 27 v 10 Wellington Following St Ives demolition of Bude in their last game it may have been expected that they would have put a similar result on bottom of the league side Wellington. The encounter that took place was very different however. St Ives fielded what on paper was a stronger side, Jamie Hoskin returned in the second row, Archie Mackay resumed his role at number 8 and Tom Nicholas was available again at centre. With Jordan Gott returning to fly half head coa

After the record breaking score line of 92:0 against 12th placed Bude, The Hakes have an even stronger squad (on paper) to face bottom of the league, Wellington tomorrow at The Rec. It will be a long journey of 139 miles for the team from Somerset, the longest they have to make during the season. Although the town has a population not much bigger than St Ives, 14,549 in 2014, they have a number of larger towns in the area from which to draw players. Somerset has long held a
I am indebted to Andy Peters' Facebook post for this photograph of the 1957/8 St Ives Chiefs. It seems to be the ideal mark of repsect to the family of Leslie Stevens, the captain, on the day of his funeral at Fore Street Methodist Church this morning at 11:00a.m. Please remember Lily and the family.
