St Ives 91:12 Coney Hill

On a calm dry winter’s day St Ives were visited by Coney Hill on Saturday in a fixture that remained unfulfilled in September.  It would have been St Ives that travelled to Somerset.  This first game of the second half of the season allowed St Ives to reinforce their position in fourth place in the South West 1 West league, improving their points difference greatly, against the side from Bristol firmly established at the f...

St Ives travel to Devonport tomorrow with few surprises in their line-up.  The excellent performance of last week against Cullompton has made selection far from a head ache.

In the front row, Kye Beasley starts with Leigh Hocking on the bench.  Ben Taylor moves to hooker, allowing head coach, Rob Elloway, to be rested.  Ben Jenkins takes up the other prop position. The second and back rows are unchanged. New signings Sam Bartle (Hooker) and Ben Wa...

Where ever you read about this fast developing rugby talent the fact that he played rugby for St Ives Cornwall is always mentioned. Sources inform it was the 2010-11 season, the last time we were in the South West 1 West league. More information about his performances for the Hakes is scant.  This post is to celebrate that and his selection for the Australian Wallabies.

"Melbourne-born Peter Samu is an explosive ball carrying backrower. With an Am...

Only one Cornish Fixture

During much of the latter part of last season, when promotion began to look more and more likely, there was often metion of the fact that there would be very few Cornish clubs in the league, should the Hakes 'go up'. In fact, it transpires that the only other Cornish club is Launceston, who finished third last season, after relegation from South West Premier the previous year.

However, if one takes a look back to when St Iv...

St Ives have only a couple of changes to recent selections and should travel to Devon with plenty of confidence in their last away fixture in the Western Counties West league for this season.

When one discusses the many and varied reasons for our success thus far, one to note is the number of players used across the campaign. In 2015-16 and 2016-17 the 1stXV called upon the services of 42 players. This year that number is cut to just 32. A consist...

St Austell 24:26 St Ives

A cold, but mostly dry Easter Saturday greeted the teams and supporters for the Cornwall Cup semi-final at Tregorrick Park this afternoon., on this the third time of asking. St Austell had been involved in Intermediate Cup and league postponements on the other dates originally set.

After sailing into a 14:0 lead early on, both attacks in the red zone, The Hakes were well in control. An unfortunate error at the restart was c...

St Ives have taken four points away from home at Chard to earn another win on the road. However, it seems that today this is so much more than just another win in a magnificent, history making season. With three more games to play they are sixteen points ahead. Second placed St Austell went to Falmouth in a must win game, but the Eagles managed to hold the Saints to a 12-12 draw. Meanwhile, Devonport Services again lost at home to south Devon riv...

Head coaches Paul Thirlby and Rob Elloway have announced a strong squad to tackle their visit to local rivals Truro tomorrow.

Truro have not had a happy time of it in 2018, with four loses, two of which were at home. Two games in February brought a partial return to form with an away win at Falmouth and a home draw against Paignton 31:31.

St Ives recorded a 41:19 victory over Truro early in November, the first game of their magnificent run of wins....
