St Ives XV 7 v 22 St Ives Exiles & Veterans XV

The traditional Boxing Day fixture between St Ives and Hayle was cancelled this year due to Hayle not being able to raise a side. Despite this the St Ives Committee was determined to see a game take place so called upon some stalwarts of the club to raise two sides that could play each other at Alexandra Road.

With 1st team players not available due to league commitments it was down to mainly second...

Mild weather brings players out of hibernation

A glittering array of St Ives men from far and near have been convinced by Mark Rowe, Ian Sanders & Liam Nankervis that it would be a good idea to don their rugby apparell this Boxing Day.  The usual clash with the boys from across The Bar is cancelled.  In its place a stupendous group of lads intend to run off the excesses of turkey, chocolates, cake, pickles and alcohol; all in one 'fowl' swoop, i...

Please allow me to relate what I have been asked to state and what I believe to be the latest, albeit, unofficial news regarding Boxing Day.

Not The Lions

Last Friday Hayle said they were not able to bring a side over to us.  This seemed a little odd since they were able to field a winning side against Tavistock at the weekend.  The away win 12:15 was as welcome to us across the bar, as it wasfor our Cornish rivals; especially for one who plied h...

St Ives colts 24 - 12 Saltash

St Ives travelled up to Saltash for an important fixture for both sides. Both teams looked determined from arrival.

The game got underway and for the first 5 minutes of the game it was a very even battle. However, St Ives had most of the possession and were pushing into their opposition's half and finally made a break through when inside centre Soul Hardy made a good run and then popping it off to Peter Skeggs playin...

After last week’s outstanding performance against league leaders, Withycombe, St Ives is able to field a strong side for their next match. There are some enforced changes due to several players going home for the Christmas period on leave. The Culdrose trio of Sam Carter (Workington), Greg Loydall (Rugby) and Bobby Conroy-Smith (Worthing) are all on leave.

Jess Tompsett is rested today, which allows Tony Stevens a starting place. Captain, Ben Ta...

Last Saturday the St Ives 1st XV travelled to Cornwall & Devon league leaders Withycombe for their latest league encounter. Head coach Paul Thirlby was able to name a strong squad for the match, including newly re-signed Todd Prisk who re-joined the club from National league side Fylde. He joined his brother Jamie in the second row for this game. Tom Nicholas came back into the centre with Bobby Conroy-Smith moving out...

St Ives RFC welcome home England counties U20s forward Todd Prisk who has signed for the Hakes on his return from national league outfit Fylde.

Todd has trained with the first team squad in recent weeks and on Sunday evening agreed to sign for the club.

Obviously Todd has a big family influence within the club where parents Nicola and Paul are club secretary and interim first team manager respectively. Brothers Jamie and Niall also represent t...

St Ives 43 v 12 Bodmin

Last Saturday at Alexandra Road St Ives welcomed Bodmin in their latest Cornwall & Devon league game. This game was a warm up for the Hakes as they prepared to have a tilt at league leaders Withycombe this weekend and Head Coach Paul Thirlby brought in two new signings for this match. Bobby Conroy-Smith and Greg Loydall, both from Naval side Culdrose, were brought in to strengthen the back line. Other changes saw Sam Heat...

Pirates Amateurs 0 v 30 St Ives

Last Saturday at a wet and blustery Mennaye Field in Penzance the St Ives 1st XV squad travelled to face their local rivals Pirates Amateurs. Head coach Paul Thirlby named a strong side without too many changes from last weekend’s trip to Bude. Ryan Bishop came on to the wing to replace Nathan Allen and Neil Corin was named on the bench in place of Ben Wheeler.
