St Ives 26 v 30 Wadebridge Camels

On Good Friday at Redruth RFC the final of the Cornwall Knockout Cup was played between last year’s winners St Ives and Wadebridge Camels in a replay of last year’s final which was won by St Ives by a single point.

The match was played in good spirits and was an entertaining spectacle as the lead changed hands several times before the final whistle.

St Ives kicked themselves into an early lead through the boot of Gr...

Cullompton 38 v 48 St Ives

St Ives travelled to Devon side Cullompton for their final South West One West league game last Saturday. The Hakes travelled with a strong squad welcoming back Peter Mabbott and Lewis Vinnicombe from injury.

It was Cullompton who made the better start but in bizarre fashion. They were awarded a penalty kick when St Ives was caught offside. The kick fell short, but the St Ives players did not react and the Cullompton play...

The annual awards presentation for the senior part of the club took place on Saturday 6th April. St Ives gained a bonus point victory in their final home match of the season against Hornets.  This was followed by a hog roast and, in the early evening, the presentations were made.

The club recognises that once a trophy, cup, shield or bowl is returned by the recipient, there is no lasting memento of the award received.  Therefore, recipients from 2...

St Ives RFC has received the coveted RFU Accreditation award.

The RFU says of the scheme…

“The RFU hopes that clubs will be both challenged by the process and enjoy it. It will allow clubs to exhibit all that is good about rugby in their adult sections, mini and youth, women and girls and touch rugby, while demonstrating that this is all achieved in a friendly, welcoming environment.”

The scheme, launched in 2012, asks a club interested in the awa...

St Ives 34 v 13 Hornets

Last Saturday St Ives played their last home game of the current season against Weston-Super-Mare side Hornets.  Player Coach Rob Elloway was not available for this fixture so Connor Bick stepped in at hooker.  Aden Brassington returned to the back row from injury, with Sam Vernon named among the replacements. Steve Kenward was back in the centre.  Leigh Hocking continued at prop with Ben Jenkins recovering from an injured...

Top Appearances in the Last Four Seasons

Congratulations to these few players with appearances in each of the last four seasons in an era when loyalty is becoming a rare commodity, especially to Martyn, Jamie and Ben, each with a century.  During these years the number of league and cup games averages at a little less than 28, making at least 25 appearances per season as a consistent (and relatively injury free) period in their rugby careers. Wel...

Bridgwater & Albion 24 v 20 St Ives

Last Saturday St Ives travelled to Somerset side Bridgwater & Albion for their latest South West One West League game. This would be a tough fixture against a side just above them in the league. A heavy defeat at much lower placed Thornbury two weeks ago would be in everyone’s mind.

A strong looking St Ives squad travelled to the match and the Hakes started well when Dan Magee kicked a penalty when the home side...
