End of Season Player Stats

Forty two players took the field for The Hakes during the 2015-2016 season. Some played only a few games, but all were needed. Injuries and availability of players makes this statistic a relatively easy one to understand. However, it puts enormous pressure on a few people to keep on the drive of recruitment and retainment of players. Therefore, this short peice recognises the considerable efforts of the fifteen players, who never cross the white line, during an aggregate of 59 appearances.

Several players came out of retirment to help the cause. Special mention to brothers Tony and Louis Stevens, whose experience and ability shone through. John Trewhella took up the game he had laid down a number of seasons ago and provided the link between forwards and backs on six occasions. During the latter part of the season three colts were drafted into the first team and showed considerable potential, certainly not looking overawed; Luke Allatt, Jake Clemson and Peter Skeggs.

Congratulations to those who played in every single match throughout the season; Martyn Lawrance and Jamie Prisk. Martyn made an outstanding contribution with his 21 tries, which makes him the club's top try scorer this year. It should be noted that the much improved attitude and performance of Jamie follows two seasons where he has missed only one game. He, like others who performed regularly in difficult fixtures during 2014-2015, will appreciate the joys of success and the hard work that makes such success possible. His 12 tries puts him second in the try scoring stakes.

Grant Thirlby is the top points scorer. His excellent kicking accrued 75 successful conversions from 137 attempts, a 54% return. However, this does not show the value of the really important kicks he made in crucial matches. Neither is it possible to quantify in the same way his returns from penalty goals, as no record of the number of attempts was kept. Suffice to say that he produced some brilliant kicks when most needed. His total of 214 points included 2 tries and 16 penalty goals.

There were only two occasions when Grant Thirlby did not play. Lewis Thomas struck through the kicking tee with great accuracy with eight conversions to add to his eleven tries, making him third top scorer and third in the try scoring column.

Our biggest win of the season was against Hayle, 69:6. Our biggest points win away from home was against Exeter Saracens, 50:0, but our best win was probably at Withycombe on December 12th, 23:20.
