Squad for Falmouth announced

More new appearances from recent signings. Collins and Manna to start.

St Ives are able to field another strong squad for this Saturday’s 2nd round cup tie at Falmouth. However, there are several newcomers to the team so it will be necessary for them to gel together if their potential is to be realised. Falmouth have lost one game only this season. They should be considered a tough opponent. Performing as a team rather than talented individuals is something that head coach, Paul Thirlby, will be looking for. Today he is not playing so will have a keen eye on who shows the discipline and selflessness he requires.

Ben Wheeler moves to his more familiar role at prop to allow the captain, Ben Taylor, to reside at hooker. Jess Tompsett, one of few to have appeared in all games so far this season, takes the other front row spot. Jamie Prisk, another constant in the squad, has performed well throughout the early part of the season and has four tries to show for it. For the first time supporters who are prepared to travel will see Luke Collins, an exciting prospect to partner Prisk, leaving Tom Chandler to be an impact replacement from the bench. Tom is another to have featured throughout. Ben Jenkins is cover for the front five and is another to have featured in every game so far.

With Sam Heath still side-lined, the back row still looks very strong with Neil Corin returning and Cameron Bone continuing. Ever present Martyn Lawrance is averaging a try a match. Sean Stevens is on the bench and rearing to get his chance.

Jason Jackson takes a rest today. Sam Carter moves in from fly half, while Grant Thirlby moves into this spot, averaging over 14 points in each of his four appearances. Tom Nicholas is back on duty for the fire service, which brings another centre partnership; Sam Bristow and debutant Laurie Manna. Nathan Allen occupies left wing. Aaron Rowe is given his opportunity on the right wing. At the back Lewis Thomas holds down the full back position and is thoroughly enjoying his rugby at present, scorer of six tries already.

Guy Pallett, Peter Mabbott, Louis & Tony Stevens, Ryan Bishop, David Bramwell and Joel Stevens are all injured or rested. If the squad that is picked all play, the Hakes will have fielded thirty players in the first team this season. Let’s hope we can sooner rather than later get some reserve fixtures on the board.
