St Ives Colts battle with Strong Camborne side
St Ives Colts 29 - 72 Camborne Colts
St Ives Colts took on Camborne Colts in Saturday's 1pm kick off. The hosts, St Ives were looking to improve on their previous performance last week and continue to show they stay together as a team. Both teams were eager to get a win as last weekend they both recorded losses.
The away side got the game underway. From the beginning it was obvious the game was going to be a very physical one in the cold conditions. The away side defended well in causing a turnover and quickly going blind catching the opposition off guard. They quickly added another try, targeting the blind side.
St Ives were battling hard, earning penalties and making ground with kicks from the scrum half and fly half of the home side. All forwards from both sides battled hard in the line outs and breakdowns, however, from a breakdown the away side attacked the wings and added 2 more tries. The score stood at 24-0 with not long to go in the first half.
The home side didn't give up and replied with a try led by the forwards with their pod work, but finished off by inside centre, Luke Allatt who has proven to be a very important asset in the St Ives side. The score was 24-5 as the try was unconverted.
The first half finished 34-12 as Camborne added 2 more tries and then St Ives scored their second. Charlie Cannon-Roberts took a quick penalty running for the line then setting it up for Bailey Clary-Brom to finish the job. The second half got underway much like the first half; however, St Ives battled on with their same 15 whilst the away side was able to make substitutes due to their squad depth.
Camborne colts added a few more tries, capitalising on their opportunities. Having fresh legs on the park showed massively.
The home side didn't give up, keeping their heads high. When the St Ives boys got going with possession of the ball they attacked in a very tasteful way. The forwards got what they deserved with Rory Whitehead and Jake Clemson getting tries resulting from fantastic pod work from the forwards. Also, Billy Wilkins and Craig James made the difference in the break downs leading up to the tries.
The game finished at an extraordinary score line of 72-29 to the away side. As a team the St Ives boys are playing well when attacking, but will need to improve on their defensive game in training on Tuesday. Additionally, St Ives will hopefully get players back for upcoming games who are currently struggling with injuries.
