St Ives RFC Supporting Cancer Research UK

PRIOR to St Ives’ game against Devon league rivals Tiverton on Saturday (Oct. 21) Club officials made a special presentation, a donation of £4531.91 to Cancer Research UK. The funds were raised through the proceeds of two charity dinners over the last year and were accepted on Saturday by Local Fundraising Manager, Sophie Barber.

Sophie Barber, Local Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research UK said: “St Ives Rugby Club are an absolute inspiration and we can’t thank them enough for organising their brilliant gala balls to help Cancer Research UK beat cancer sooner.”

“Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and our work has been at the heart of that progress. However, we have only been able to achieve this thanks to the dedication and commitment of supporters like the St Ives Rugby Club

“Research is Global but it has a local impact. Every day, people in the South-West and all across the UK, benefit from drugs that Cancer Research UK scientists helped to develop. The death rates from cancer in the South West have fallen by over a fifth, over the last 20 years, our research will help it fall even more. Ground-breaking research is being carried out all over the UK, to help beat cancer sooner.”
