Shock loss of Rhys Brownfield met with positive signing
With the shock exit of Rhys Brownfield part way through last week the St Ives management took little time to replace the utility back.
Lewis Vinicombe came to the call of the club with an instant reply that he would sign and play in the remainder of the league campaign and was eligible for the cup matches as he was not cup tied.
Lewis has a wealth of experience, having played regularly for Cornwall in the county championship. His previous clubs include, Cornish Pirates, Redruth (where he scored over 100 tries) and, most recently, Camborne.
At half time at Alexandra Road, during the last home match against Lydney, Lewis, a very experienced back, met with Director of Rugby, Joff Rowe, and signed his registration forms.
Joff comments
“Signing a player with Lewis’s credential is a massive benefit to the development of the club. It has been a difficult week losing Rhys, but the players agreed that the best response was to beat Lydney, regroup and focus on the rest of the campaign. I genuinely feel that Lewis can add real value to the squad and this will compensate for the loss we have experienced.
We are still very confident that Grant Thirlby and Adam Hosking are capable of managing our game from 10 and Dan Magee and Sam Carter will continue with kicking duties. Lewis will be there to hopefully score tries and help development around our talented back line.”
