New Club Coach Appointed

St. Ives RFC have appointed Mal Roberts as their new Director of Rugby.

Mal has a wealth of playing and coaching experience, having been head coach of British Army Rugby for 3 years. A retiring captain in the Army he has moved back to his home county of Cornwall. Mal captained Newbury Rugby Club from 1999 to 2008, during which time they gained promotion into the Championship.

Mal also played and coached at Launceston RFC in National 1, as well as representing Cornwall, England Counties and the Barbarians.

Mal’s organisational skills, attention to detail as well as his planning and forethought are just a few of the qualities he will bring to the new role.

It is an exciting time for St Ives RFC, following two successful promotion seasons and a national cup semi-final this year. There is lots to build on and to aim for as we return to the senior leagues. St Ives will ply their trade in Counties 1 Tribute Western West next season.

The club aim is to play to the highest level that our team’s ability and commitment will allow; and to build on the great work already done by the previous coaches and players.

With the exciting prospect of the clubhouse relocation and redevelopment, St Ives Rugby is truly back on the right track.

We would love to welcome any new players and their families to St Ives RFC to be involved in the next exciting chapter in our club’s history.

Artistic impression of the new clubhouse to be sited where the stand now is. A second pitch will be located behind.
