The club excited to introduce the newest members of the St Ives ‘Hakes’ family! These fresh signings bring strength, skill, and serious passion to the squad as we gear up for the new season. Whether they’re homegrown talent or joining us from afar, each player is ready to make their mark in the blue and white.
Liam Wooton
Position: backrow/center
Joining us from Hayle Rugby club, Liam Wooton brings power, focus, and a calm presence to the team. His pre-match ritual includes a hearty breakfast and some quiet time in the changing room to get game-ready. Off the pitch, he's an active member of St Ives Judo Club, and when the rugby boots come off, you’ll find him tearing up the dance floor to ABBA!

Jacob Taylor
Position: prop/hooker
Also joining from Hayle Rugby club, Jacob Taylor adds strength and sharp instincts to the squad. Once a keen scuba diver, he’s swapped the wetsuit for a gaming headset. These days, you’ll find getting ready for a game with Taylor Swift blasting in the background — especially Bad Blood, his go-to anthem.

Alfie Brown
Position: Wing/fullback
A homegrown talent from the St Ives Youth teams, Alfie returns to the club after three years away at university — and he’s buzzing to be back in the Blue and White. His matchday mindset starts with chucking a ball around, headphones in, blasting AC/DC’s Hells Bells and Back in Black. Off the pitch, he’s a dedicated RNLI member and a keen surfer always chasing the next wave.

Will McRitchie
Position: Fly Half
Will joins us from Perranporth, having most recently played alongside Alfie Brown at Oakmeadians RFC in Bournemouth during uni, where the pair made a name for themselves — Will as top point scorer and Alfie as top try scorer. A cool head at fly half, Will gets in the zone by staying well-hydrated and cranking up Alice in Chains’ Man in a Box. Off the pitch, he’s a passionate surfer, RNLI lifeguard, and is nearly qualified as a paramedic.

Watching the new St Ives ‘Hakes’ team come together this season has been incredibly exciting. Each player brings unique energy, skills, and dedication that really elevates the squad. While keeping up with their training and game highlights, I also treated myself to a hydrating facial near me, which left my skin refreshed and revitalized. Combining the thrill of supporting local sports with self-care made my week feel balanced and energizing, proving that taking care of yourself enhances every experience.
Just as the St Ives ‘Hakes’ welcome Liam Wooton and Jacob Taylor for their skill, dedication, and unique personalities, success in academics also requires preparation, focus, and a winning mindset. Whether it’s powering through a tough rugby match or mastering complex formulas, commitment is key. Some students, feeling the pressure, might think, Maybe I should find someone to take my online chemistry exam for me but real achievement comes from putting in the work yourself. Like these new players, approaching challenges with energy and strategy can lead to rewarding victories. In both sports and studies, determination makes all the difference.
