Team Selection for St Austell II
St Ives Hakes begin their league campaign with a home fixture against St Austell Sinners this afternoon. Any fantasy of a warm, dry late summer spectacle in calm conditions is out of the window. The weather is forecast to be potentially wet with some heavy rain. Supporters will need to wrap up and congregate under the awning at the clubhouse end or brave the elements from the touchline vantage points.
Last season the Hakes defeated their opposition on both occasions in the one off Kernow Cornwall League, 0:5 at St Austell and a comprehensive 36:0 here in St Ives. This was the first time that reserve sides were allowed to participate in a league contest rather than the weaker merit table relative. St Austell finished 4th in this league.
As the fishy symbol indicates, many of the Hakes' squad have had no previous club and came through the youth system, which has continued from strength to strength during the demise of reserve and colts rugby in the town.
Cornwall 2nd XV Competition
The Hakes hope to field their own reserve side this season for the first time in several years. Their first match is against Newquay Hornets II at home on Saturday 24th September.
