Record numbers at Hakes Touch Rugby

Over the past 3 months there has been a lot of work carried out behind the ‘scenes’ to firstly start a new ladies section at the club and secondly, to bring the men’s/mixed touch rugby group firmly into the club at St Ives Rfc.
The men’s/mixed group has been operating successfully for just over 3 years now and numbers attending have been consistently strong during that time. Not only has the club been able to attract new members but quite a number of players have then progressed onto play for the second team and even the first team. What is also a huge bonus is the fact that some of our younger players have turned up and played alongside some more experienced men and through that, their understanding of the game and lines to run and maturity has developed considerably. A number of our 16 to 18 players have also progressed and are becoming an integral part of both the first XV and second XV.
The ladies group are going from strength to strength and numbers are growing fast. In late July we began with 6 players and tonight we had 28 - absolutely amazing! The fun, the energy, the focus and the friendships are inspiring to witness. They are a joy to coach and we are welcoming new members each week.
The club committee have been an incredible support throughout and just recently the club have allocated funding for both of the groups and with that funding both the men’s and the ladies section have just received new kit (including balls, bibs, cones and a bag) that has been well received by both groups. We must also thank Ian and Paul Sanders for working closely with us to get this underway and to Andy Perkin for setting up a clear system for this group to become members of the club.
We have had record numbers training on 24th September - with 30 men and 28 ladies enjoying fast and furious games and a few laughs along the way! New members are always welcome.
