Colts in East v West battle
St. Ives Colts 7 - 24 Launceston Colts There was a 12:30pm kick off at Alexandra Road for the St Ives Colts' first game back after the Christmas period. Finally they have key players back from injury such as George Sanders and captain, Jake Clemson.
Once again the weather conditions were wet and windy when the game got underway. St Ives won the toss and decided to play with the wind in the first half to try and get the upper hand. Fly half, Peter Skeggs got the game underway from the centre spot with a great drop kick deep into the Launceston half. From this, St Ives pushed hard and pressurized the away side into making mistakes. Shortly after, the St Ives fly half picked up an injury to his hand and was unable to continue. Centre, Luke Allatt, filled in as fly half. Mistakes continued to occur because of the conditions so it was hard to get a good passage of play going. However, the home side was looking strong with their forwards pushing further up the pitch. Jake Clemson finally found a gap in the Launceston defensive line, but got tackled 10 meters from the line. Scrum half Charlie Cannon quickly sniped around the ruck that was formed and dived over the line. The try was converted and the halftime score, 7:0. St Ives Colts had a very good half and looked a stronger team from previous games. The second half got underway and Launceston bounced back and tried to get back into the game. St Ives defended really well with a well-structured defensive line. However, the away side finally found a breakthrough and scored in the corner. The try was unconverted; 7:5. After this St Ives looked very fatigued and the away side quickly added another try, this time converted, which made the score 7:12.
Overall the game was very equal and both sides played very well attacking and defending. Unfortunately for the home side, Launceston capitalized on their chances better and added two further tries towards the end of the game. The final score was 7:24. Next week St Ives Colts face Penzance – Pirates Colts - for their first cup game of the season. This will be a 1 o'clock kick-off at home. Please support them. It would be much appreciated.
