Additional Coach for St Ives
Rob Returns for end of season finale
Former St Ives head coach, Rob Elloway, is to return to St Ives as forwards coach for the remainder of the season. Director of Rugby, Joff Rowe, is very pleased with the outcome of talks with the Pirates’ player and it was agreed that Rob begins coaching from this Wednesday until the conclusion of The Hakes’ league and cup campaign for 2016.
Elloway is a major rugby talent within the county. He joined the Pirates in 2007 as a hooker and has played well over 200 games for them. In 2009 he made his senior international debut, playing for Germany, his country of birth, in the European Nations Cup Division One competition. A year later he was a member of the Pirates team that became the first ever winners of the British & Irish Cup.
Coaching has provided an avenue of development for Elloway which has seen spells at Hayle and St Ives. Most recently he has stepped up his ambitions for the future by becoming a forwards coach at Redruth. Their head coach, Steve Larkins, said of his role;
“Having mentored Rob through his Level 3 award a couple of years ago I know he has the attributes to be a good coach. Rob brings a real enthusiasm and technical knowledge at line-out and scrum time, and we naturally welcome him on board.”
The club is very pleased to have offered the position of an additional coach at the club. He joins the already successful head coach, Paul Thirlby, assisted by Louis Stevens, who is player and forwards coach. Paul, himself a level 2 coach, is excited about the prospect of Rob joining him.
“This is a great opportunity for all players to make training a priority as the season comes to a climax. As a coach in my first season I am hoping to learn from Rob myself, so every player should also be looking forward to his input. When I have enough experience I too hope to progress to the level 3 standard.”
St Ives are in a position to bounce back into the Western Counties West league, but must clear the final few hurdles. This includes a home match against Withycombe this Saturday 9th April. A win will be a massive boost prior to the knock out cup semi-final against Penryn on the evening of Tuesday 19th April.
