Denis Stevens

It is with sadness and affection that the rugby club remembers the former captain of the early 1960s. Denis was known for his end of season charity matches where a whole team of Steven’s would play. A tough, no nonsense, flanker, he was an abrasive tackler, sometimes, even if you didn’t have the ball, due to fading eyesight.

A ‘Ted Brown’, Denis ‘Ally’ was also a long serving fire fighter with the Cornwall Fire Service at St Ives. His stories written in the Cornish dialect, often appearing in the Echo, showed a great passion for St Ives, the use of language and his love of family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.

Last Respects

The funeral is to be held at Fore Street Methodist Church at 2:00pm on Thursday 14th April and afterwards at Longstone Cemetery for internment. Later gathering at The Royal British Legion.... 'If 'e gota min' to..'
