Martyn Lawrance to Return to St Ives

Followers of the Hakes via the social media platform of Facebook will be aware that former St Ives No.8, Martyn Lawrance, has resigned for the club for the forthcoming season. His presence will bring considerable experience and leadership from the front.

After leaving St Ives he was signed by Camborne and scored his first try at Brixham in October 2019. Covid hit and in April of this year, with his enthusiasm for the game gone, Martyn retired. Now 35, Martyn will find it a challenge to regain his considerable former fitness, but his strengths will lay in what he can inspire in those around him. He would openly agree that rugby has been a large part of his life, not least off the field where he has made many friends. Martyn first joined the club in the 2015-16 season. He had come from Illogan Park who were playing in Tribute Cornwall 1 and a successful Cornish Rebels RL side. He had undoubted talent and soon made his mark, scoring a try on his debut at Plymstock AO.

Benefiting from the coaching received and the players around him he continued to progress and make an impact, showing that he could handle the higher levels of the league system. He was ever present and influential in St Ives gaining promotion into Western Counties West with 21 tries in 26 appearances. Martyn continued to make significant impact on the field in the following seasons. He barely missed a game and continued to be a prolific try scorer:

· 2016-17 Western Counties West, 25 appearances, 9 tries · 2017-18 Western Counties West, 26 appearances, 17 tries · 2018-19 South West 1, 26 appearances, 8 tries.

Supporters will be sure to give Martyn a very warm welcome and will look forward to him once again taking the field for St Ives.
